Whitening Toothpaste

Teeth whitening products come in many various forms, and whitening toothpastes are one of the simpler kinds. These toothpastes are different than all other teeth whitening products because they contain only abrasive materials and usually do not contain a bleaching agent.

Instead of being a bleaching whitener, they are abrasive whiteners. This means that they contain abrasive materials which effectively "sand" your teeth; they grind away any discoloring materials. This is only so effective; if you have especially dark teeth, you may find that whitening toothpastes are not sufficient to lighten your teeth.

Controversy

There is large controversy over the effectiveness of abrasive, whitening toothpaste. It is often compared to regular, fluoride toothpaste, which also contains abrasive materials. In fact, that is what toothpaste is; it is how it they clean. This has led many to question whether teeth whitening toothpastes are any different than regular, fluoride toothpastes.

Sometimes, however, whitening toothpaste contains more of these abrasives than regular toothpaste. This is not necessarily good, as too many of these abrasives can cause sensitive teeth and gums. Some often contain baking soda, which is a very effective abrasive.

Baking soda

When compared to other teeth whitening toothpaste abrasives, baking soda is very effective. But, buying toothpaste containing it is not necessary, as you can simply make one yourself. Simply mix a dash of hydrogen peroxide with a pinch of baking soda in a bowl to create a very effective teeth whitener. Since hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent used in more effective whiteners, you will get the best of both abrasive whiteners and bleaching whiteners.

Rembrandt

Rembrandt toothpaste, being a whitening toothpaste, contains abrasive materials. However, it contains less than most other whitening toothpastes. Therefore, Rembrandt is less harmful to your gums and teeth than other whitening toothpastes, and it is recommended for those with sensitive teeth.

Pearl White

Pearl White is often given after a teeth whitening procedure, such as laser teeth whitening, to be used to maintain the whitening achieved after the procedure. To use it, simply use a dry toothbrush (be sure your teeth are very dry as well) and brush in circles on the front of your front teeth. Brush for one minute each on the upper and lower set of teeth, and finish by rinsing the mouth with warm water. This does not replace fluoride toothpaste, however, and one must be used for regular cleaning afterwards.

Pearl White is much more effective than other whitening toothpaste available over-the-counter. It provides immediate, noticeable results, and is recommended as the top teeth whitening toothpaste.

When used to maintain the whiteness achieved from an intense whitening procedure, teeth whitening toothpastes are somewhat effective. However, for those with darker than normal stains or those who desire a more dramatic color change in their teeth should consider the use of teeth whitening products which contain hydrogen peroxide to better fit their needs.
