Healthcare Adds 28,000 Jobs in August

Healthcare Adds 28,000 Jobs in August
Friday September 4, 2009
As the unemployment rate inches up towards double digits, the healthcare industry continues to add jobs monthly, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report released today.

Payroll employment decreased by 216,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate increased to 9.7 percent. The good news is that the number of jobs shed in August is lower than we experienced during the worst of the recession, when half a million jobs or more were lost monthly. Hopefully this is an indicator that the nation's economic situation may be slowly turning around.

Healthcare remains one of the few bright spots in the report, having added jobs in August, for a total of 544,000 jobs added since the start of the recession! Most of the jobs added in August were in ambulatory (outpatient) care, nursing, and residential care. Hospital employment was relatively unchanged in August.

What does this mean to you? Focus your job search in medical offices, nursing homes, and outpatient medical centers. Hospital jobs have slowed with the recession as hospitals struggle financially.Healthcare Adds 28,000 Jobs in AugustSource: www.about.com
