Untold Stories from Within the Nursing Home

Things You Never Thought Could HappenIt makes me so angry to think that all you ever hear about are all the bad things. I mean I totally get that for some reason all the bad normally out weighs all the good, but really, enough is enough. The news media and the general public have bashed our nursing homes for decades. All the
?stories of theft, abuse, and negligence are the only things people seem to remember. But what about all the day to day drama that our nursing staff and others deal with every single day? Does anyone ever stop to think about what really goes on behind closed doors? Well, I am here to tell you just how intriguing it really is to work in a nursing home and all the glory that comes with it!On any given day it no longer surprises me to find my co-workers with black and blue bruises from the night before when what is usually a pleasantly confused 90 pound frail hospice patient has thrown a right or left hook that makes Matt Hughes look like a pussy cat. Not to mention that she can lift her leg higher than any one of Hefner's' girls at the playboy mansion. What still amazes me though is the grip from her tiny non muscular thighs and arms that could squeeze the life out of you quicker than any snake I've ever seen. It's the maneuver I like to call "The Death Grip!" This is only the beginning.....it gets so much better. For instance, a few weeks ago just standing around the nurses station for normal business endeavors we turned to see and hear two patients in a cat fight we had to break up. It always starts out so innocent. One patient purposely taking their wheelchair and ramming it into another patient's chair saying, "how did ya like that?" And of course the other patient rams their wheelchair back into the other's chair saying, "well how did you like that?" Then it begins, the new game of yelling at each other and playing what we now call bumper wheelchairs. So as usual, before mom (our Director of Nurses) shows up, we have to separate the kids and make them go to their separate corners before someone looses an eye or something.Untold Stories from Within the Nursing HomeOriginally from: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1938358/untold_stories_from_within_the_nursing.html
