best laptop for nursing student?

I will be entering college in September as a nursing student. My current laptop is really on its last legs, and probably won't even last until January, so I figure I should just get my college laptop now.
I currently have a Dell, and have all the software for it, but also definitely wouldn't mind switching to an Apple.

Preferably for less than ,000.

What laptop do you think I should get (specifics would be fantastic)?
