LPN Program Advantages?

I want to get my BSN but the programs are so competive and the Pre-reqs take so much time up front. Those of you that have gone from LPN to RN..Is it worth the extra step? RN programs are so competive and difficult to get into it seems like the LPN route may be worthwhile. Can I transfer or use LPN credits/experience towarsd an online RN program? then to BSN program?

I am looking at a private institution for Practical Nursing? Any other suggestions or helpful hints?
