Economy, Internet Transform Physician Search

Economy, Internet Transform Physician Search
Wednesday October 7, 2009
The American Medical News published an article online this week about recent trends in physician search. The report found that that the internet boom and declining economy have altered physician search strategies for many hospitals and medical facilities. Additionally, physicians who are seeking practice opportunities now do so from their computers, utilizing email, job boards, and social media, instead of applying for opportunities by mailing or faxing a CV.

The article includes facts compiled from numerous physician search firms, including a study conducted by my employer, The Medicus Firm. The Medicus Firm's study found that the percentage of facilities utilizing outside firms has declined from 55.1% in 2008 to 49% this year.

The reasons cited for this decline in the utilization of third party search firms were the many tools and resources available on the internet, as well as the economic woes which are impacting many hospitals.
