When an employer reads your CV that has dropped onto the desk along with the huge pile of other CVs from hopeful jobseekers, you need to make sure that your CV stands out. It is not enough that you are an exceptional candidate, you need to be able to show in about 20 seconds exactly how good you are and how you the best candidate for the job in question.
Why just 20 seconds? Its really simple, a matter of logistics. The economic recession has put massive pressure on everybody, particularly on support departments such as personnel. Their numbers have been cut back, and people simply do not have the time anymore to read thoroughly every single CV that comes through the doors of the organization. If your CV does not make any favorable impression very quickly you will not get an interview and you won't know the reason why.
Your career objective, personal profile, or career statement shows the employer very quickly exactly what you can do for them through a brief summary of your past career to date. You need to show anyone reading your CV exactly what you can do for them in which geographical area at what level and why your track record is so much better than anybody else's.
Having a CV more or less than two pages long is not want an experienced recruiter is looking to see. They all used to having to read professionally written CVs that are written on two pages only. You do not want under any circumstances to be ringing alarm bells in the mind of a recruiter. Having the discipline and skill to be able to condense a persons entire career into just two pages sets professional job seekers apart from all the others.
At any given time your mood and feelings change. Understanding that this is the case may well help you to get more interviews. If you are happy and contented then that will show up in your writing. If you are down or depressed, the opposite happens. Clearly you need to watch your language and mood carefully- write when you feel at your best.
The overall standard of CVs is improving all the time. A professional recruiter will nowadays expect you to have a professional CV that is achievement driven and not focused on responsibilities. Having a poor CV nowadays is no longer acceptable as there is a wealth of information available to jobseekers on the Internet and the best candidates know this.
