If I have a misdemeanor, can I still become a nurse?

I plead guilty to misdemeanor larceny (I copied software C.D.'s from a store I used to work at) back in 2000. I'm interested in attending nursing school but the school I want to apply to said on their website that the state may deny an application for licensure if the board determines that the applicant "has been convicted of or pleaded guilty or nolo contendere to any crime which indicates that the nurse is unfit or incompetent to practice nursing; or that the nurse has deceived or defrauded the public."

I know this isn't black and white and that the Board will certainly investigate, but what are my chances? Am I waisting my time here?
