AONE Releases Technology ToolKit for Nurse Executives

The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) has released a toolkit for chief nurse executives and hospital leaders to use as they manage the acquisition and implementation of information systems. Utilizing the identified assumptions of the previously-released AONE Guiding Principles for Defining the Role of the Nurse Executive in Technology Acquisition and Implementation, a special task force consisting of chief nursing officers and directors from health care contributed to the development of this new toolkit.
The AONE Toolkit for the Nurse Executive in the Acquisition and Implementation of Information Systems is a repository of resources on transition planning, acquisition, implementation, key learnings, health care IT investment, disaster management, contingency planning and nurse informatics credentialing. AONE maintains that the launch of this toolkit is essential to making the transition to EHRs and other information system advances successful, given the current push toward health care reform and the move to electronic health records (EHRs), According to Judy Husted , chair of the Technology Task Force, "This toolkit has been designed with the nurse executive in mind and will serve as a valuable resource for all phases of technology acquisition. Based upon the guiding principles, this "must have" online resource guides the nurse executive through acquisition, implementation, key learnings, healthcare IT investment, nurse informatics credentialing and disaster management to highlight a few of the topics. Reference resources include power point presentations, articles, books and website links."
In conjunction with the launch of the AONE Technology Toolkit, AONE will be hosting the first in a series of webinars focused on hot topics on Wednesday, July 29th. Dana Alexander, CNO of GE Healthcare Solutions, will present "Preparing the Nursing Workforce for Electronic Healthcare Records" in a 60-minute web seminar.
The Toolkit for the Nurse Executive in the Acquisition and Implementation of Information Systems and the AONE Guiding Principles for Defining the Role of the Nurse Executive in Technology Acquisition and Implementation are available to view on the resource section of the AONE website at www.aone.org. In addition to these principles, AONE has developed guiding principles in the areas of patient safety, nurse/physician relationships, elder-friendly hospitals, future patient care delivery, diversity and hospital design.
