The tiny infant was found in the rubble five days after the earthquake barely breathing with severe head and chest injuries. She was immediately stabilized at the Project Medishare Field Hospital at the airport and medevaced by heroic Project Medishare/University of Miami doctors to Miami to receive emergency care at Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center and Holtz Children's Hospital. Her dramatic rescue was broadcast on news outlets around the world resulting in an outpouring of compassion.
"The Baby Jenny Fund was established to give this modest family a chance at rebuilding their lives and getting back on their feet," said Roberto MartÃnez, partner at Colson Hicks Eidson and attorney for Baby Jenny's parents, Junior Alexis and Nadine Devilme. "This family lost everything in the devastating earthquake and like hundreds of thousands of fellow Haitians has suffered severe emotional and financial distress. This Fund will help ensure that Jenny has a bright future that she is so deserving of."
The International Rescue Committee, which has no association with Project Medishare/University, is generously helping Baby Jenny's parents during their stay in Miami with housing and day to day needs. Dr. Fournier, the University of Miami/Project Medishare physician who treated her, said she must remain in the United States for continuing physical therapy to treat her injuries. She is progressing and is expected to make a full recovery.
All donations to the fund will be directed to a trust being setup in Baby Jenny's name that will give her and her parents some much needed assistance. Donations are tax-deductible and donors will receive a thank you letter in the mail, as well as via email. To donate, please visit www.tinyurl.com/babyjenny and follow the instructions.
