Why is it when someone says nurse everyone automatically thinks RN?

I am an LPN and have been for many MANY years, yet when someone asks me what I do and I tell them nurse. They automatically assume RN. When I correct them and tell them LPN they comment " oh I see"
LPN's know just as much and sometimes more than RNs either way both groups serve the same purpose and all are nurses in my eyes and the eyes of my fellow NURSES
