How Can Schools Prevent the Swine Flu?

I teach at Holy Name of Jesus School in Valhalla, New York. My school has already started to take precautions against the swine flu and will continue to do so until this epidemic is over. Here are some of the precautions we have taken.First of all, the Principal bought Clorox wipes to put in each classroom. She would like for the students to wipe their desks every morning when they come in. The classrooms are used after school hours for other activities, so plenty of germs can be passed around this way. ?to be used if someone sneezes on their desk or any other part of the classroom that can be wiped down. This includes the computer, tables, teacher's desk or bookshelves. The Principal has also provided automatic hand sanitizers for each classroom. This is to be used before the students eat snack or lunch, or if someone sneezes into their hands. By having this, children don't have to leave the classroom every time they need to wash their hands or sneeze in their hands. Each teacher is stressing the rules more than ever since this can be a deadly virus. The students need to be reminded to keep their hands to themselves at all times and to keep their hands away from their face throughout the day. The facial area is the part of the body where germs can enter through the mouth and nose. By keeping hands to themselves, germs won't spread as easily. This may be harder to do in the lower grades because the little ones are always touching each other and holding hands. I particularly make sure that I use hand wipes before eating anything. Students are to either wash their hands or use the hand sanitizer immediately after they sneeze or cough. No one is to sneeze or cough into the air. I always try to keep the classroom well ventilated. Even in the winter months, I may keep the window opened just a crack.
