University of California Davis Medical Center Earns Top 50 Ranking

July 15 - UC Davis Medical Center has been ranked one of the top 50 hospitals by U.S. News and World Report in two specialties.

The medical center was ranked 35th for orthopedics and 50th for cancer care.

Ann Rice, the medical center's chief executive officer, said the magazine ranking is one way that hospital officials use to monitor the quality of patient care.

Two other Northern California hospitals ranked in the top 50 for cancer care: the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and Stanford Hospital and Clinics.

Three other Northern California hospitals ranked in the top 50 for orthopedics: UCSF Medical Center, Stanford Hospital and clinics and John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

The magazine looked at nearly 5,000 hospitals to rank the best in 16 adult specialties. Death rates, patient safety, and reputation went into the 2010-11 rankings.
