My Life Changes During Football Season

It has at long last started. NFL season.

Technically it started this past week on the smurf turf in Boise, Idaho in a game predestined to be known for what occurred after the blunt Blount bash -more memorable than anything that took place during the 60 minutes of regulation.

And presently the Steelers - hoping to become the 1st franchise ever since the Patriots to do it again - began their championship defense with a gratifying win over the Titans to launch the '09 NFL season.

I recognize I'm not as prolific during NFL season. Suddenly, I'm only doing stuff in between commercials, if at all, on weekends, plus Thursday nights, Friday nights, and Monday nights.

Then add in fantasy football - which drastically decreases the amount of time I'd otherwise be productive, writing, or doing something prolific-and more hours than I am willing to confess are devoted to this sport.

This time of year, I surely don't eat as healthy.

Wednesday night, I ate fish with mixed veggies and went for a swim after a 6 mile jog.

Thursday (game day), I had a super burrito, too many chips, beers, ice cream, more chips, and saw the movie Max Payne after the game, before checking fantasy statistics for Kerry Collins and then staggering to bed, bloated from the chips.

Don't recognize if there are some football detox programs and even if there , I wouldn't voluntarily take part. Hopefully my family wouldn't stage some sort of intervention.

Fact is, I do not want to quit, however as a Broncos fanatic that can change as the year progresses.

NFL and NCAA football are religion for a giant percentage of the population. We're corn chip-devouring cult members following the rantings of Chris Collinsworth.

So it's on. The 2009 year commenced and, like it or not, life will not be the same until a month into 2010, when the natural football detox starts.
