Prior generations of doctors were motivated by a desire for social success. Doctors from this older generation focused on a much more regimented lifestyle with the goal of gaining material possessions that resulted in a life of accomplishment and ease. Current students are beyond comprehension should your beliefs and standards be from an earlier generation's opinions.
Avoiding the pressure of the financially able, these young doctors are focused on needs and how to deliver medical care to the community in this new era we are in. A knowledgeable assistant professor who has led the charge for changing medical program goals and what they teach, states that even though the United States has thrown a lot of money at medical programs, the citizens and care they receive are most likely not going to improve any time soon. If changes do not begin to come, we may find that our quality of medical care could even deteriorate more than it has now dropped.
Fortunately, an organization has been formed to encourage medical students to concentrate more on public and environmental health, and preventive medicine. This organization sponsors medical projects that are geared towards the community, throughout the country This program also works full time to get community health projects into the classrooms to expose aspiring doctors to them.
A student who was the director of the association indicated that many students who did rotations in these projects often showed interest in coming back to the project once they have become licensed physicians. Reaching out to the communities that they are serving, you will find the med schools and hospitals wanting to recruit minority men and women to train for medical careers, in addition to the setting up of clinic and other community projects.
