Understanding Healthcare Systems: The Basics

Healthcare systems are the basis for care for people all around the world. In most communities the idea of independently owned hospitals, clinics and pharmacies has become pass. Healthcare systems are more efficient, convenient and able to treat more patients, easier and with a lower overall cost than independent options ever could. Many countries have built government run healthcare systems while others remain private. In both cases the areas that have incorporated healthcare systems vs. non system based options have a dramatic increase in the overall health of the population. The United States is now predominantly covered by "system" based healthcare and the overall health of the population is many times better than it was years ago when almost all hospitals and clinics were independently owned.

In regards to countries that have the best system in place, the United Kingdom is the best by far. There are many factors that go into making sure that a system is able to handle the needs of their citizens. These factors are important to consider when evaluating a countries system.

Type of Training Required and the Effects that Training has on Quality of Care

A great many countries have healthcare systems that are very complex and expansive, yet they still have a difficult time of handling the needs of the population. This is due to the fact that the healthcare training in those countries is a lot of time less than adequate. This leaves their personnel unable to effectively handle the needs of the people

In the United States the healthcare system is very efficient partially due to the fact that the training that practitioners undergo is extremely high and regulated by a number of agencies. The US healthcare system requires practitioners to at least carry a certification and license for all jobs.

There is a huge need for skilled nurses to work in hospitals and other care facilities. These places require that a person have the best skills possible to ensure proper care is given to a person. The standards for these care facilities are several times quite high.

Funding for Healthcare Systems

When it comes to the funding of these systems there are generally five different ways that they receive their funds. Direct out of pocket is the most common form for the majority of healthcare systems. This is funding that comes from the cost paid by patients. Few people truly realize the amount of money that it takes in order to cover the operating cost of an establishment.

Government based funding is another primary source of revenue for many of the smaller healthcare systems around the country. These systems rely heavily on the funding that they get from the Federal, state, and local funding to continue to operate. The amount of government based funding that healthcare systems receive has as of late been a point of serious contention among the elected officials of our country. The simple fact is however that with the continually rising cost of healthcare the smaller healthcare systems would not be able to survive without this critical source of cash.

The healthcare system generally is dependent on the insurance coverage of the patients that have it to cover the costs associated with those who do not. This is one of the reasons why health care coverage is so expensive to have.

A combination of this funding is used to provide the capitol needed to operate the healthcare systems. This multi-layered approach is both effective and complex. In fact it can give a person outside of the industry a headache trying to figure it out, but it works well and keep the systems working.

No healthcare system is perfect but the one that we have in the United States seems to work well. In the end every healthcare system can use to have some improvements, these improvement come when people are willing to take chances and push the boundaries of what is the norm.
