Certifications Required for Medical Jobs:Many different certifications and credentials are required for the variety of healthcare careers. The specifics vary greatly depending on which job you want to hold. However, there are a few certifications that are required of almost all medical professionals who deal with patients in any capacity, and those are primarily involving life support certifications. Below are several of the different certifications.
Most courses for these certifications are taught by the American Heart Association and are from a few hours to a few days in length. After passing a written and practical test, a certification card is awarded.Basic Life Support - BLS:A basic life support certification is the lowest level of certification required as it doesn't involve any invasive procedures or medical equipment. Basic life support certification, which includes skills in both mouth-to-mouth and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), is often required of people working in daycare centers, schools and nursing homes in addition to being required of entry level medical professionals in medical offices and hospitals. Also, lifeguards are taught basic life support as part of their Red Cross lifesaving certification.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS):Advanced Cardiac Life Support is more in-depth and intensive than BLS - it includes some invasive procedures and therefore is usually required of more advanced medical professionals.
