Dialysis Machine Or Equipment

Dialysis has been widely known as a cure as a synthetic replacement for a lost kidney function. This cure is normally recommended for kidney patients whose kidneys have not more than 10% to 15% function and is usual at the end stage of renal failure. Dialysis is not a cure but rather a upkeep for people who are no longer able to remove water, salts, water, waste and their bodies can no longer regulate a safe amount of sodium and potassium and other minerals present in the human body. The first dialysis equipment was developed on 1889 during the first described haemodialysis cure. It took about 60 years for the dialysis machine to be used clinically. In 1943, Dr. Willem Kolff constructed the firstever dialyzer or what they used to call the artificial kidney. He was then named as the father of dialysis. This medical creation made by Kolff was prompted when he was working in a small ward in Netherlands and witnessed the death of a young man due to kidney breakdown.

This incident inspired him to invent a machine that can copy the function of the kidneys. Kolff did plenty of research and while in the process of searching for materials he may use to develop the dialysis machine, he came throughout the book of John Abel printed in 1913, a well known pharmacologist at John Hopkins University. Kolff first utilized his dialysis equipment in 1943 with 16 kidney failure patients. The first trial run was of little success but it was not until 2 years after when his dialyzer was able to successfully heal a 67 year old woman with uremic coma after undergoing an 11-hour dialysis cure.

Kolff intended his invention to treat kidney problems but he never realized that he has created a life saving device for many kidney patients. His dialyzer has become the standard for dialysis machine at least for the next decade. Upon the development of this life saving device came some controversies. Some protested as they think creating a synthetic kidney is odium. in the year 1960's, not lots of dialysis equipment were present during those times so not everyone was treated.

The choice was made by a committee composed of local residents and two doctors who were not named and have been tasked to choose patients that abomination shall be prioritized. It was a matter of life and death decision and never a simple call to make, with such this decision making body has been the center of controversy. This method of selecting the recipients is now being adopted as part of the health care system.

These days, there has been a number of developments with the dialysis cure. Smaller sized dialysis equipment are now made available for home use. Though it's most restricted to those that can afford the price. On top of the developments in the equipment for treating kidney diseases, more and more trained personnel emerge graduating from more and more advance programs in operating the dialysis machine.

Before deciding on a dialysis center, we advise you to visit it and learn more about the people who can be in charge of the cure and dialysis machine. It's better to call the dialysis center and organize a visit. Have a list of questions to ask the staff on the dialysis center.
