How do i go about getting a job in a nursing home or a care home for the mentally handicapped?

not as a nurse or anything certified like that...just a job where i help out? i really want to work with either seniors in nursing homes (i looooove older people sooooo much!!!!!) or in a care home for the mentally handicapped, id prefer with children but it doesnt matter. how can i learn more about this?
