Many people travel for their job. Some people are required to travel only a couple of times a year, others a couple of times a month, and some travel weekly. However, the travel that happens in most businesses is not a pleasant experience? It is rushed and requires long hours to be gone the shortest amount of time possible.
Some people do like traveling with their job and would do it more if given the chance. For therapist, such as physical, occupational or SLP therapist, there exist jobs in which they can travel to their hearts content. Travel SLP jobs are becoming more common than they use to be. The reason for this is likely due to the increasing popularity of the career. A demand exists for qualified therapist willing to fill short term assignments. The problem that companies are running into in filling that position is the short term nature of the position. Locally qualified therapists are not looking for short term employment. This problem has spawned a whole new industry of opportunity that eager entrepreneurs have taken notice of.
These entrepreneurs created companies that became the liaison between the therapist looking for work and the companies wanting to hire therapist on a short term contract. When talking short, generally that is about 13 weeks. The liaison company works with the therapist and determining their needs and then work to line them up with companies that match what they are looking for and are looking to hire someone on a short term deal. The therapist retains all of the control in regards to where they work in this arrangement. The company that is working to place the therapist works hard to present them with job openings that they know that they will be interested in, though the therapist can always decline applying for a job or location that they wouldn't like to have. However, the ability of a therapist to go exactly where they would like to go will depend on job openings in those locations.
Another benefit of becoming a traveling therapist is the competitive wages and compensation. Some might mistakenly belief that they will be giving up some wage in order to enjoy the travel. This is not the case. The salary for each position is competitive with other industry standards. On top of that, the therapist living accommodations are taken care of as well as meal reimbursements. The insurance benefit is also competitive for traveling therapist as well. In some cases there is even a signing or completion bonus in place to help further incentivize a potential therapist to accept the job.
The joy of the travel is the biggest motivating factor of anyone who decides to become a travel therapist. The ability to travel around the country and take in the sites as well as the culture of that particular location is enticing to those who look into this kind of a job. The fact that they are paid to do so is only the icing on the cake. One last benefit, in case someone considering this career would need it. Traveling therapist have the ability to choose to move from one assignment to the next without missing a beat, or they can come back home and relax for a bit before moving onto their next travel assignment.
